May 29 marks the 31st National Foot Care Day. To enable early detection and scientific intervention of common skeletal developmental issues in children and safeguard their healthy growth, Aier Medical, in collaboration with Hefei Maternal and Child Health Hospital, entered Shuimuyuan Kindergarten of Hefei Preschool Education Group to launch a public welfare screening campaign themed "Protect Feet, Strengthen Spines, Let Children's Hearts Shine Toward the Sun", providing free medical screening services to more than 100 children in the kindergarten.
At the beginning of the event, the teachers delivered a brief opening speech, introducing the purpose and significance of this public welfare screening to the teachers and students present, and emphasizing the critical role of children's foot and spine health in their growth and development. Subsequently, the screening officially commenced. Foot screening area and spine screening area were set up on site, where medical staff worked in coordinated divisions to conduct examinations for the children in an orderly manner. In the foot screening area, professional plantar pressure detection equipment was used to collect footprints and analyze arch morphology and gait patterns. In the spine screening area, professional methods including the scoliosis measuring ruler and the Adams forward bend test were applied to carefully examine the physiological curvature of the spine and back symmetry. The medical staff meticulously recorded the screening results of each child. For those with abnormal findings, they provided on-site feedback to the teachers and offered targeted family intervention recommendations and follow-up review guidance.
According to the statistics of the foot and spine screening held at Shuimuyuan Kindergarten, a total of 220 children signed up for the activity, among whom 13 were absent due to personal matters, and 207 completed the screening.Professional tests identified 43 cases of flat feet, with a detection rate of 20.77%; 2 cases of bow legs, accounting for 0.97%; and 1 case of postural scoliosis, with a detection rate of 0.48%. Overall, the children in the kindergarten are in good skeletal development, yet the issue of flat feet deserves close attention from both parents and teachers. This activity received strong support from Shuimuyuan Kindergarten of Hefei Preschool Education Group. The kindergarten made overall arrangements in advance and ensured the smooth progress of the entire screening process. The person in charge of the kindergarten stated that children's skeletal health is an easily overlooked but vital part of early childhood growth. Many related problems show no obvious symptoms in the early stage and tend to affect children's normal development once detected at a later time. This on-campus professional screening was timely and of great significance. It not only helped the kindergarten fully grasp the children's skeletal health status, but also enabled teachers to systematically learn how to spot abnormal development of children's feet and spines in daily observations, providing professional guidance for future childcare and health care work.
